Book Haul #firstround
  • The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia [646.34 Ga]
    • there's a "tailor" section in this book, early on, maybe only a third of the way through, and it's apparent to me that Garcia has never met a woman tailor, and the idea of a woman tailor is beyond her comprehension, and so, i shut the book at the end of the section about tailoring, and i will not be completing nor promoting this read.
  • that extra half an inch by Victoria Beckham [646.34 Be]
    • it's an older book, but it's aged really really well, imo. &the cover, obviously, makes me feel super cool, lol. im referring to a pic of myself from exactly five years after the date of this book, wherein im in a b&w striped long-sleeved shirt, lol. &she's just so fucking hot. she's, obviously, so tiny, so it's tough to like imagine yourself being able to rock her style, &c., and since we (as a society) are not really talking about women's bodies anymore, it's refreshing to read that Victoria Beckham was already thinking about this sort of thing. Beckham seems to prefer a slimmer look for herself (some women are naturally this tiny, it's true, but i've heard about her "eating habits," but whether or not they're true is beyond me, nevertheless,) she remembers to include the fact that some women might not be her size, so i can, generally speaking, promote Beckham, because whether or not she prefers "slimmer" women (she does, cause the images for the swimsuit layout page describes "nautical, sexy, curvy, and girlie," but the photos of the women "modeling" the types are all skinny "white" (or white-passing, no faces or the one same woman) women. nevertheless, as stated already, despite Beckham's preference, she seems to understand that she's gotta include more women, and this book's twenty years old, so *cheers*
